I sure was a looker
back in my day
I glimmered and shined
People took notice
when I came their way
I could run with the best
at any given time
smooth and fast
leaving headlights behind
I put the medal to the pedal
on down the line
I was sleek as could be
before rust settled in
sitting at the drive in
cruising through town
with the windows down
Yes Sir,
I sure was somethin
parked on lover's lane
on a moonlight night
Those shiny hubcaps
what a pretty sight
underneath those stars
with nothing but quiet
Time sure has changed
I've never seen so many
new model trucks and cars
For me, time stands still
in the middle of this field
Everyday I just sit here
watching em all pass by
The sun beatin down
rain pouring from the sky
each day dragging by
Every now and then
someone will take notice
pull off the road
stop by for a look
pat me on the hood and say
she sure was a looker
back in her day
Yes Sir,
I sure was a looker
before rust settled in
and newer models
became the trend
and I was traded in
Before time passed me by
before the dents and scrapes
sittin here wasting away
before rust settled in
Yes Sir,
I sure was somethin
back in my day
I sure was somethin
alright

Ok, I know everyone is saying what will she come up with next.. I do go from one extreme to another but I write what comes to mind or what I can find in a picture. This one just jumped out at me and ya'll know how I love to write about the past..
It's bean picking and canning season and I'm sorry if I haven't been to many of your posts lately but will try and get around soon. Busy time of year and like my mama used to say, we got to get er while we can.. Ya'll take care and don't work to hard... Love and Hugs, Susie
Love this looking back by a truck...I see them abandoned in fields and I wonder about the stories they could tell.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie. I've always wondered that myself so I thought I'd be the voice of one for a change..lol.
DeleteAw, this is great, Susie. I love it! I'm sure it was a looker too when it was all shiny and new. I hope you are having a good week. Good luck with your canning.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Daisy. I'm sure it was.
DeleteHi Susie, I love this poem, how cute! Sounds like you have had a very busy week. I have some phlebitis acting up in my leg and have been having to keep my legs elevated for the last three days. I have learned to be good about being still, but I don't like it! :) It looks like we are going to have a big storm later tonight. Sorry to hear you have been getting hit so hard. Thankfully we have had a couple of rain free days and the pond has had a chance to drain off back into the woods. I was getting worried there for a while that it was going to flood. We had that happen once before a couple of years ago and it almost made up to the front door. That was a little scary. Have a lovely evening ahead, I know you are going to enjoy all the wonderful canned goods come winter! With Love, Delisa :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Delisa. Sorry to hear about your problems with your legs. I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. Be safe in those storms. They've been pretty bad here too.
DeleteWhat a great poem. I've always enjoyed "hearing" what old things think when I see them. I well remember those canning and freezing days. Wish my garden was big enough to do some of that.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I hope your garden does good.
DeleteI just love old trucks like this. My favorite are the old Chevy trucks. They are classic trucks indeed. This was a fun poem to read.
ReplyDeleteIt has been very hot here, and I wish it would cool down a bit. I don't do well in the heat anymore.
Love,
~Sheri
Thank you Sheri. I love anything old..lol. I saw on the weather where ya'll are burning up. Hope you get some relief soon in the form of rain. Like you I can't stand it much anymore either.
DeleteThis is an interesting analogy to our own aging...when I think about my early days, young and strong and frolicking with my friends...while I still feel young and strong, I feel like I'm watching all the frolicking by people my daughters' ages...funny. Haven't gotten to canning yet, things are still sprouting, but may your canning be successful! Hugs to you
ReplyDeleteThanks Lise. I think the same thing when I look at my grandkids. Hope your canning is successful as well.
DeleteSusie, at first I thought you meant yourself! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have old tractors that were probably treasured by their owners when they were new. What stories they could tell, replacing horses and farmers learning to drive them.
Thanks for checking in on me ~ I'm lazy I suppose.
Thank you . I was talking about myself to in this one..lol. No you're not lazy, just like me you don't have much time. It's a busy time of year. Take care.
DeleteSusie, I would love that old truck even now. I think we can all remember a car or truck from our past. Canning...eekkk that's almost like being a pioneer..I don't know if I could do it. LOL. Hope you have a wonderful week.oxox, Susie
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie. Yes we do and even though I wrote this about an old truck it could have been my daddy's old truck.Funny how things like that pop into your mind..Yeah, the canning is in full swing and I'm sure you'd do ok..lol.
DeleteHi Susie! I hope you are having a nice day. It is clouding up here and we expect more big rain this afternoon. We have had unexpected company come and they have been with us since Sunday. It has been a lot of fun. Some good friends of ours have family from Nashville that were coming down for a visit. Then it rained so hard Saturday night that their well flooded and water came up through their toliets and drains. What a mess they had on their hands with no running water. So we invited everyone to come here and we have set up our guest room and air mattresses upstairs in my sewing room. They are lovely people and I feel just like they are family. I have been enjoying the visit and hearing all their stories. We are going to make fried chicken together tonight with all the trimmings. Yum! I just hope our electricity doesn't go out in the storm! I'll just try and think positive. :) I hope you all stay dry and have a wonderful afternoon! With Love Delisa
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so sorry to hear this Delisa. This summer, the weather has been crazy. I'm so glad ya'll are making the most of it and enjoying yourselves. That will be such a mess for them to clean up. Ya'll stay safe in those storms and I will be praying for you all. Hugs.
DeleteYes,Susie, I bet it was a looker back in her day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Janet. I bet she was too.
