Soon It Will Be Knocking

Soon it will be knocking at my garden gate
It fills me with grief that has no name
The remaining marigolds stands so straight
Their brilliant orange warms them like a flame

Bathed in the clear light of an autumn sky
The lovely dahlias they too, will soon go
When the evening comes and the winds die
Oh if only there were an aftermath glow

Pretty morning glories will close for good
As the ice crystals cover each tiny stem
The berries are already red on the dogwood
As they welcome the little squirrels in

Pretty flowers that have dotted the land so bold
Will bow and make a grand exit like the rose
As autumn's shadows turn to winter's cold
My oh my how swift this beautiful season goes

Though it may seem sad when all is gone
And old Jack Frost covers instead of dew
So much beauty known is yet to be shown
When the spring returns and all is brand new

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Fall weather. Fall officially begins tomorrow but it already covers the landscape everywhere. And with the cooler weather and cool nights the leaves will be turning fast. I love Fall  and dread winter. How is the weather in your neck of the woods. Susie

  5. Where did summer go? Spring is my favorite season because there's so much new life all around us. Fall makes me dread cold winter days ahead.

  6. Susie, I love autumn, but hate to lose all our pretty flowers. I am hoping this is a long and pleasant fall season. I remember last two winters seemed so very long and I sure am not looking forward to it. Take care, let's make the most of these beautiful days. xoxo,Susie

  10. Hi Susie! Your poems are so soothing to my heart. I love how reading them instantly takes me to another place. A place that is lovely, noble and beautiful! I especially love the poem about your husband. I also love the line in this poem about "the grief that has no name" in describing the changing season and the loss of your beloved flowers. I feel the same way about my plants and trees. They bring me so much joy. Fall is just starting here, and I am loving the cool morning air. I have been going to bed earlier and getting up earlier so that I won't miss it. Pretty soon it will be a little too cold for morning walks! We are still working on the remodeling project. The never-ending...remodeling project. :)Everything was a standstill for a couple of weeks but it has picked up speed again. The painting of the living room and dining room is now complete. It feels like we are in a different house. It made the room look so much bigger. Last friday I went to the hospital for an iv that I have to have every year. It made me feel pretty sick and gave me a high fever on Saturday. But I am back up to speed again today,or at least trying really hard to be. :) But I'm under husband orders not to work too hard today, so Barkley and I are resting and I'm catching up on my blogging and letter writing. Barkley acts like he is tired today too, he didn't leave my side the whole weekend. He is such a good dog! :) I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you so much dear friend for all your sweet comments! With Love, Delisa :)

  11. The picture of the morning glory is so pretty, Susie. The color is cheerful. I heard awhile back that ORANGE is the happiest color, and I believe this to be true. My roses started to bloom once more before the winter season begins.

    Have a wonderful week.

    Love,
    ~Sheri
