It happens so often
A small, whimpering voice
Heard in the dark
Without reason or choice
With an empty stomach
A body that's bruised
No where to turn
And everything to lose
Such an innocent place
Where childhood lives
Is slowly taken away
By the hand that gives
A small spirit is broken
The pieces are gone
Never to be replaced
But innocence goes on
Running and jumping
So happy at play
With a smile on its face
And fears hidden away

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.. Sadly, to many children are abused everyday. It breaks my heart to know that so many suffer in silence and come to expect it and never know different or have anywhere to go or anybody to turn to. Blessings, Susie
Susie,
ReplyDeleteIt's nice of you to write a poem in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Any time we can let our voices be heard to protect the children, we must do so. Children are special people, indeed.
Love,
~Sheri
Thank you Sheri.. Children are very special and it breaks my heart to know there are people that's cold hearted enough to hurt them. I've always had a special place in my heart for children and old people.Love to you.. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for addressing such a harsh topic. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I know too well the pain of these children who suffer atrocities by hands that should be nurturing not harming them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie and I'm so sorry for what you've had to endure.. You are so right, they as cold hearted as they come.. Hugs to you my friend.
DeleteSusie, You are so right . Mant times the abuse is by the hands of the child's own parent. That is heart breaking...but the child hangs onto their love of that parent. My own father whipped us kids till we peed our pants. I didn't know at the time that he was hung over from drinking and didn't want us near. I still loved him. He and my mother divorced, and daddy signed us kids over to the welfare. Mom had to go to court to fight to keep us, she did keep us. I still loved my father. But I knew I would never treat my daughters like that. xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for what you've went through Susie.. It must have been devastating for you and your siblings... This happens to much and there needs to be something done.. These children have had their innocence taken away.. Something one never gets over.. I was very blessed.. Love you my friend.
