A Poet's Dilemma

I tried to write a poem but it wouldn’t come together
And I thought to myself, what on earth is the matter

I tried everyway I could to just get a rhyme
But nothing seem to work ,it just wouldn’t chime

Then I said to myself why should this be
In the past it has always come naturally

Frustrated and aggravated, I tucked it away
And for all I cared, that’s where it would stay

Then one day it came to me so very  clear
I’ve been writing  the wrong thing in my ear I could hear

I picked up the poem and I picked up the pen
I started writing the same poem all over again

Nothing seemed the same as it fell into place
I guess you could say it was a complete replace

The one thing I learned from this experience, you see
Is that a poem can be whatever it wants to be

You can’t make it up as you go along
It has to come to you or it’ll be all wrong

A poet’s dilemma is a rough road to walk
It takes words instead of action, and very little talk

As you can see with this one I’m not at my best
So I guess I can say, my mind’s taking a rest

Yep, that's what I'm doing folks, taking a rest. It seems these days that's all I do is rest. I'm trying to rest my Adrenal Glands so they'll heal and my old worn out body for that matter. I'll be back soon as I'm able to visit with you all. Take care and God Bless!!

  2. Susie, I know you don't think this was your best poem, but I thought it was one of the most delightful ones you've written. It was simple and whimsical and sweet. I have another blog friend who writes poems like this almost every time on her blog, and she adds pictures of handmade cloth dolls she makes. Sometimes I get writer's block, then I go to a quiet place, like nature, and the words all come back to me again. I do hope you feel better soon, and sending thoughts of comfort and love. You are a very good writer, Susie, don't ever forget that - a writer of poems and stories that come from your heart. : )

  4. I really liked this poem, Susie. I thought it was a fun subject (and one I'm familiar with too!). You described the frustration of writing a poem very well. I hope your rest helps you get to feeling better. Thinking of you and sending prayers up for you.

  5. I also thought this poem was sweet! When I write, it isn't a spur of the moment thing. I've usually given it much thought and it comes while I'm working on the farm. It goes around in my head as though I'm reading it and then I can write it down. Make sense?? Probably not :) I'm also still praying for your recovery of good health.

  6. Susie, you are so right! I have found that when something is not working it's better to just walk away for a while. Then I like to call it "the anointing" will rise and it is easy! You poem is another winner in my book!

  8. You have pointed out the very bottom line of a poet's hardship and now you made it easy for us to understand what poetry is all about. Thanks for sharing this so valuable lesson and such a touching experience.
Your poems always have been those written from your heart and are heartfelt.
    Take care of yourself.

  10. Good poem, Susie. I'm so glad you got that poem and let it write itself. That's the writing life. Sometimes we just have to let the poem "jell" awhile, get it out, and things fall into place so beautifully like this poem.
