He's America's Son

                                                           A gallant, brave soldier
                                                           so fearless and strong
                                                           lies in the trenches
                                                           in a war torn zone

                                                           With visions of freedom
                                                           so courageous and true
                                                           with a longing for peace
                                                           helps carry him through

                                                           Jungles or deserts
                                                           wherever he may be
                                                           he'll keep up the fight
                                                           no rest for the weary

                                                           His job is not over
                                                           until victory is won
                                                           he's a fighting soldier
                                                           and America's son

Tribute To A Soldier

                                                     A brave and determined soldier
                                                     in a lonely, distant land
with his gear on his back
and his weapon in his hand

                                                     He follows his instincts
                                                     although the elements are rough
with a hunger in his stomach
                                                     he's grown patient and tough

                                                     He knows his job well
and does it best as he can
he hasn't slept in quite a while
sleep's not part of the plan

                                                     His mind wonders back
                                                     to his home faraway
                                                     those beautiful, smiling faces
are the highlight of his day

                                                     That sweet, little baby
he hasn't even seen it yet
he longs to hold it so
and knows it's grown quite a bit

Then back to work he goes
                                                      with war there's no end
he'll hold on to his thoughts
                                                      until he sees them again

                                                     The determination in his heart
                                                      has become mighty strong
to fight for what he believes in
                                                      and everything he's known

                                                      The price for freedom
he's willing to give his all
in the eyes of his country
                                                       he's a man quite tall

                                                       His reason for being there
the old red, white and blue
and that makes him a soldier
                                                       through and through

                                                       Susie Swanson, 2010

I know it's early but Happy Memorial Day to everyone and let's not forget the reason for it..
I may be gone fron Blogger for a little while. My brother is back in the hospital with hurting in his chest again..They are running tests to see what it may be..He's the one that had By Pass Heart Surgery back in February..He was doing really good and went back to work a month ago.. But with this type of surgery, who knows what can happen..I personally think they (the doctors) push things along a little to fast..Of course like everything else, modern day medicine has come a long way.. Please keep him in your prayers and May God Bless..Susie

The Wonders Of Nature

A little deer standing by the roadside
looking back and forth, to and fro
wondering if it should run and hide
and which way it should go

A long neck crane standing in the creek
                                               an awesome sight to see
attempting to grab food, it takes a peek
then flys away with it's large, majestic wings

A large hawk sitting in a tree
                                             looking around for its prey
whatever that may become or be
it'll never have a chance to get away

A strange flock of birds fly in
from some place faraway and unknown
on nature's food they do depend
they're here for a time and then they're gone

A little rabbit sits in the clover
everyday it sits in the same spot
late in the evening when the day is over
I can tell by the clover it never eats alot

A large raccon visits from time to time
                                           searching for something to eat
up the creek bank he does climb
grabs what he can and runs back to his retreat

A hoot owl makes his presence known
in my yard each and every night
he'll hoot until the break of dawn
and then return again the very next night

The squirrels are never a stranger and always there
                                           running this way and that
hoping the birds will kindly share
each day they grow more big and fat

These wondrous sights my eyes do behold
takes my breath away and fills my heart with pride
to know that nature can be so bold
in a place where I live and abide

                                            Susie Swanson, 2010

Back when I wrote this poem a couple of years ago, In one week I saw all of this. I live in the country beside a creek and I just had to jot it down.. I am so blessed to be able to live in a place where so much of nature can be seen.. We see a lot of the cranes in the spring and fall, the racoons visit every now and then. The owls come every summer, the little rabbits feast on my yard of clover and the squirrels are frequent visitors..The birds fly in every spring, messing up my deck and side walk with their droppings..But I don't care to clean it up just to get a peek. The deer come out late in the evening or early morning and I've even seen a few walking down through the middle of the creek..I guess that's to throw off their scent..One thing I failed to mention are the wild ducks, they swim down the creek every spring..Two together, the male and female mallard ducks..And every visitor is so very Welcome..Hope you enjoy..Blessings, Susie

Happy Mother's Day Mom

Today I wear a white rose
                                                        instead of wearing red
                                                        in memory of my mother
                                                        many tears I have shed

                                                        I know she's  in heaven
                                                        this beautiful Mother's Day
                                                        up there with the angels
                                                        where roses bloom everyday

                                                        The sun is shining brightly
                                                         upon her golden crown
                                                         when God placed it there
                                                         heavenly joys did abound

                                                         No more sorrow and pain
                                                         her heartaches are all gone
                                                         although I miss her so
                                                         I know she's finally home

                                                         Heaven was made for mothers
                                                         around the great, white throne
                                                         where angels wait upon them
                                                         a deserving trait they own

The bond can not be broken
                                                          a mother's love is true
                                                          I wish a thousand moments
I could have back brand new

Today I wear a white rose
                                                           instead of wearing red
                                                           Happy Mother's Day Mom
                                                           we'll soon together wear red

Music Box Queen

                                                             She twirls and twirls
                                                             like a merry go around
                                                             in her frilly new dress
                                                             and shiny, gold crown

                                                             A fair maiden is she
                                                             with wavy, golden hair
                                                             she dances every dance
in her mind he is there

                                                             As the music plays
                                                             two hearts beat fast
                                                             and every tender moment
                                                             is a gift that'll last

                                                            She can see him clear
                                                            in that faraway land
                                                            in the midst of war
                                                            he dances so grand

                                                           Across the ocean wide
                                                           two spirits does grow
                                                           they dance the night away
                                                           in their ballroom show

                                                           When the dawn is nigh
                                                           with the sun's early gleam
                                                           she continues to dance
                                                           like a music box queen

A Page Of History

Crystal chandeliers hang in the parlor
a stately, old house all alone
the silence is waiting to stir
as time has swiftly marched on

Soldiers once gathered to rest there
when the darkness fell each night
                                                  the vivid stories of warfare
became more horrid at war's height

The walls wore a secret disguise
passage ways  led to the unknown
during many dark and dreary skies
she offered a safe refuge and home

                                                  The crystal chandeliers are hanging
those big doors are open wide
                                                   the fireplace mantles are crumbling
still, she surrounds herself with pride

With her colonial style and manner
what a grand, old lady is she
today she waves an honored banner
on a page of civil war history

Miracles From God

I marvel at each tiny seed
                                                   when planted in the ground
                                                   will grow into maturity
                                                   with beauty to astound
                                                   the greatest miracle of all
the things that fill this earth
is that first cry of baby
                                                    the miracle of birth

Each flower, each tree, each floating cloud
                                                    are proof beyond a doubt
                                                    that power beyond ourselves
                                                    caused this to come about
the mountains high, the winds that blow
                                                    the food producing sod
and that first cry of baby
                                                    are miracles from God

Hope you are enjoying it as much as me.. May God Bless...Susie
