And those old country roads were surely the best.Elaine/Muddling Throughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07542943000832182111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7542626754689382068.post-20022791734598864572013-11-28T17:37:41.256-08:002013-11-28T17:37:41.256-08:00Hi Susie! Yes, I too have fond memories of riding ...Hi Susie! Yes, I too have fond memories of riding in the back of the pickup, whenever we went out to the country to visit my Aunt Emma Jean and Uncle Richard. Uncle Richard would take my cousin and I to the general store for a cold Dr. Pepper and a package of beef jerky. It was such a treat to ride in the pickup.

Of course roads weren't quite as busy as they are today and speeds were not so fast, and there were no such thing as cell phones, and no one was in such a big hurry that they needed to drive and talk on the phone at the same time anyway. :)

I remember very vividly when my Grandpa had to stop driving. He stubbornly fought the idea and gave my Dad a very hard time about it. Then one day Grandpa was backing out of his driveway and lightly hit the paper boy, knocking him off of his bike.

Thankfully the boy and the bike didn't have a scratch, but it scared Grandpa terribly. He gave up his keys that night and never got behind the wheel again. He also went over to the boys house and wept as he apologized to the parents and he brought the boy a brand new bicycle and a box load of models and other toys he thought the boy might like.

Grandpa was that way. Stubborn to a fault, but when he was wrong, he had a beautiful sense of humility and he wasn't afraid to say he was sorry with all his heart. He would go far out of his way to show you how much he meant it. I am so thankful that no one was hurt. If Grandpa had hurt the boy even a little bit, he would never have forgiven himself and would have suffered the memory to his dying day.

I admire families that have the courage to talk about this sensitive subject with their senior family members. It shows their love and concern for their community as well.

I hope you had a wonderful day Susie and I enjoyed your post very much. It was a nice walk down memory lane. Have a lovely and restful evening ahead! With love, Delisa :) P.S. Tony and I both have chest colds. Blah. :( Barkley is enjoying having us both home and camped out on the couches with our pillows and blankets. He has all his toys out in the middle of the floor and it looks like Romper Room. I can remember riding in the back, standing up against the cab. Also, I remember it taking out on us, and now, every time I go up that road, I know the spot where we broke down.
