Christmas Miracles

                                                    Christmas bells are ringing
                                                    on every corner street
                                                    the little kettle she holds
                                                    against the snow and sleet

                                                    Her wrinkled hands are cold
                                                    on this sacred, Holy night
                                                    she rings her little bell
                                                    under the street corner light

                                                    Her mind wanders back
                                                    to that Christmas long ago
he held her ever so tight
and left in the fallen snow

                                                    Her one and only love
                                                    bid her a sad farewell
with a long and gentle kiss
                                                    while Carolers sang Noel

                                                    No letters did she receive
                                                    years of heartache instead
for the one she has lost
she fears is long since dead

She toils to help the needy
                                                    like every Christmas before
her home is now so empty
there's no one to open the door

                                                    She hears the Carolers singing
the songs she loves so well
                                                    time to go on home
                                                    with sadness she does dwell

                                                    Stepping from the street corner
                                                    the car blared its horn
                                                    laying crumpled upon the ground
this birthday, when Christ was born

                                                   A bright light did descend
                                                   two lovers did embrace
                                                   they rose towards heaven
so much joy upon their face

                                                   Two hearts joined as one
the place where it all began
                                                   where there's love God dwells
                                                   Christmas miracles does transcend

  6. What a lovely poem, Susie. I don't know how you do it - you sit down and write a poem like this. It takes me forever to complete a poem. I think it just comes natural to you. So glad you're feeling better, sweetie.

  7. What a sweet, sad, lovely poem. You are very talented. My son had to write two poems for a school assignment last night. He asked for my help so I gave him some ideas. It was actually kind of fun...we laughed and laughed at some of the silly lines he came up with for a "serious poem." He had to write a 12 line tercet and some of the rhymes he came up with were hilarious! So glad you are feeling better.

  13. Hi Susie! I'm so sorry I have been away for so long. I didn't mean to take such a long break, it just kind of happened. I have been enjoying these last days of autumn. It is so wonderful to have the house to myself again. We have had so many guests this year, I didn't realize how much I needed to have some quiet and time to myself. My mother -in-law is loving her new apartment and is really blossoming. I have been kind of cocooned away, puttering around the house, working on my projects and going for walks, baking cookies, sipping tea...:) I'm sorry to hear that you are on antibiotics. Is it for your teeth? I sure know what that is like. Back in the 1990's I had some major dental issues and ended up having to have my teeth pulled. Tooth infections and abcessess can make you so sick and weak and those antibiotics can do a number on your stomach. It sure is important though to take good care of yourself, because infection in the teeth can spread to other parts of the body. Once, when I was having a tooth pulled, the infection from the tooth drained down my throat and I got the worse sore throat I have ever had. How thankful I was for the antibiotics. But the good thing is that once the dental work is all done, you will feel so much better. Maybe even better than you have felt in years. Your poetry is so beautiful Susie, I get so excited when I visit and see a new poem all lined up. It is like the anticipation of eating a fine piece of chocolate! I hope that you have a lovely day ahead my friend! With Love, Delisa :)
